Land Drift begins with looking at the surface of the earth. As darkness, close viewing distance, and cues of scale are reduced, the earth gradually loses its certainty as 「earth」. Landforms, vegetation, fibers, and unnameable material structures begin to overlap, while the image no longer provides a stable sense of scale, direction, or object identity. Here, 「drift」 does not refer to the movement of the body through space, but to the displacement of things from their established cognitive relations. When the earth itself—the point of reference—begins to drift, the act of looking also loses its stable position.
